More About My Journey...
I first got into training due to my love of basketball. I was obsessed with all things basketball and I couldn't live without it. Then in 8th grade came a huge wake up call. Checking online to see the final cuts for the team and I couldn't find my name anywhere! It was a devastating blow. A realization occurred and I knew that just playing with my friends wasn't going to cut it so I began researching online how to get better. Reading more and more about the science behind exercise and skill enhancement the more fascinated I became. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right because being a basketball player meant so much to me. I couldn't fail!
Many hours were spent practicing, researching, and trying to make sure I got every detail correct. Through all this effort I still wasn't seeing much progress in my game. They had promised success but I had nothing to show for my work. Spending hours in the gym and trying many different programs I was confused where to go from here. I was getting more skilled but I was having a hard time to translate it fully to games. I began to deal with various injuries including chronic knee and low back issues. I was at a loss. I poured my heart and soul into trying to get better but I was trying to navigate this process on my own with no education and poor guidance. I felt let down by my coaches.
That feeling is what drove me into helping others. I didn't want anyone else to have to feel like their coach either didn't care or couldn't help them. I felt so down about my situation I needed to shift my mind elsewhere. I turned to serving others. Unfortunately, there are many out there in a much tougher situation. I had a lot to be grateful for in life but I also knew the pain of feeling forgotten. I wanted to use the resources I did have to help those who needed it. So more and more of my efforts went into volunteering opportunities. It felt amazing! Seeing what my time and efforts could do to make someone's life a bit easier was remarkable. To turn that dark feeling into a positive outcome was truly life changing.
As college was approaching I was trying to figure out what to do with my life. I did know a few things: I loved basketball, I was fascinated with training, and I loved helping people. But how could I combine all of this into one? Luckily, I was able to find some amazing coaches online. They were able to have a huge impact on others by guiding them to a healthier life and helping them achieve their dreams. They showed me how special it is to help someone accomplish something they weren't sure they could.
Seeing the change they could make in people's lives made me want to follow in their footsteps. So I pursued a degree in Exercise Science to develop a solid foundation through the sciences and learn how to filter out all the conflicting information. As I'm sure you've experienced, one of the biggest barriers to achieving our goals is finding the right path and navigating obstacles. By learning the foundations of exercise through physics, anatomy, and physiology I am able to analyze all the different options to determine the best course for you to achieve your goals. This knowledge along with my own experiences allow me to prevent you from going down the wrong path.
While studying I took on many internship opportunities working with a variety of populations in different settings. I was able to learn from coaches at a Top 10 Gym in America according to Men's Health Magazine and Division 1 Strength and Conditioning Coaches. Some of the clients I worked with included pro athletes, youth athletes, weight loss clients, elderly clients, and everyone in between. It was fascinating to see how the things I learned from one client could be carried over to another completely different situation. The more experience I got the more I saw how much impact I could have. To be apart of someone's journey towards bettering themselves is special. I love working together with my clients and involving them in the process so we can provide sustainable results. After reading a bit about my journey, I hope you let me join you on yours!

A Little Word From My Friends!

Josh is an incredible performance coach. Not only has he helped my 12-year-old son, Tommy, get stronger physically in sports but also helped him get stronger mentally. Josh’s knowledge of sport-specific training is impeccable. A few quotes from my son "Mom when can I go to RPM and work with Josh it’s so fun to work with him. “Josh is amazing he has taught me how to get stronger and it is now showing with how many home runs I have hit”. It is the best when your son comes walking out of RPM with a huge smile on his face. Thanks, Josh for making my son a better athlete both physically and mentally.
